Yn ystod pob tymor, bydd artistiaid yn gweithio gyda grwpiau o'r gymuned gyda'r bwriad o archwilio ystod eang o bryderon sy'n gysylltiedig â dŵr mewn amrywiaeth o lefydd yn Y Borth, Tal-y-bont a'r cyffiniau. Bydd pob project yn ceisio archwilio materion mewn ffyrdd unigryw ac fe fydd pob artist yn defnyddio dulliau gwahanol o gelfyddydau cyfranogol er mwyn ateb cwestiynau sy'n codi o ymchwilio parhaus y tîm astudiaethau achos yng nghanolbarth Cymru. Bydd rhywfaint o'r gwaith yn ymwneud â grwpiau penodol yn y gymuned a materion cysylltiedig, tra bydd eraill yn ceisio creu cymunedau sydd â'r un diddordebau mewn themâu, lleoliadau a gweithiau celf penodol.
Nid bwriad unrhyw ddarn o waith yw ymgysylltu ag aelodau o'r gymuned ar draws ardal gyfan yr astudiaeth achos. Yn hytrach, dylai'r ystod eang o artistiaid, grwpiau, unigolion, lleoliadau a themâu sy'n ymwneud â'r project, yn ogystal â'r cyfnod o ddeuddeng mis, greu celf (sgwrs) sydd yn gryfach gyda'i gilydd nag ar wahân. Tra bydd pwyslais y gwaith a grëwyd ar yr arferion cyfranogol, bydd y pedwar tymor a'r Map Dŵr, yn cael eu gweld fel ffrâm strwythurol ehangach ar gyfer cymryd rhan yn y celfyddydau a'r gymuned a chreu perthnasau; unigolion â’i gilydd, unigolyn â llefydd, unigolyn â dŵr.
Mae cysylltedd a'r angen am ymwybyddiaeth ehangach o faterion a ddeallir ac a brofir gan unigolion, grwpiau cymunedol a sefydliadau sy'n ymwneud â llywodraethu, yn thema sy'n codi dro ar ôl tro yn ein sgyrsiau gyda rhanddeiliaid, ar lefelau lleol a Phrydeinig. Rydym yn gobeithio y bydd cynhyrchu ein Map Dŵr, wrth gadw at sylwadau Grant Kester am arferion celf ymddiddanol, yn arwain at siarad a chydweithio pellach yn ymwneud yn uniongyrchol â'r themâu ac ymarferion sy'n datblygu o'r project. Nid oes gan Cymerau awydd i ysgogi newid cymdeithasol penodol, ond yn hytrach, ceisio creu perthnasau ac o wneud hynny, hwyluso cydlifiad diwylliannol o sgiliau a gwybodaeth a fydd yn gwneud newid cymdeithasol mewn perthynas â dŵr, a'i reolaeth o uwchlaw ac islaw yn bosibl.
Bydd y gwaith hwn i raddau helaeth yn seiliedig ar broses, gyda phob darn o gelf, ffilm, perfformiad etc yn cynrychioli’r gweithgareddau cydweithredol parhaus sydd wedi dod ag o i fodolaeth. Yn y modd hwn, mae ein dealltwriaeth o gymryd rhan yn ymestyn y tu hwnt i'r cyfnewid rhwng y gwyliwr a'r gwaith celf yn y digwyddiad byw, i gwmpasu'r holl sgyrsiau a rhyngweithio sy'n angenrheidiol i ddod â'r flwyddyn o waith i fodolaeth.
Er mwyn sicrhau bod ein gwaith ni, a gwaith ein hartistiaid sy'n cydweithio, yn cael ei lywio gan bryderon unigolion sy'n byw ac yn gweithio yn y Borth a Thal-y-bont, byddwn yn defnyddio cyfuniad o ddulliau celfyddydol a gwyddorau cymdeithasol. Bydd gwrando, ymgynghori, holiaduron, cyfweliadau a chylch trafod yn rhan barhaus o'n gwaith. Dyma fydd yn digwydd yn ystod ein cyfnod paratoi, Chwefror 2015 - Awst 2015. Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn byddwn yn ymgynghori gydag aelodau o'r gymuned ac artistiaid er mwyn datblygu rhaglen waith sy'n amrywiol a pherthnasol. Byddwn wedyn yn gweithio'n agos gyda'n partner cymunedol Ecodyfi a phartner celfyddydol Creu-ad er mwyn hwyluso'r cyfathrebu rhwng artistiaid a chyfranwyr yn nyluniad pob darn o waith celf. Yn y modd hwn, ni fydd ein gwaith dan arweiniad artistiaid na chymuned, ond yn hytrach trwy drafodaeth barhaus.
Drwy gydol y flwyddyn o waith, ac yn y misoedd ar ôl ei gwblhau, byddwn yn parhau i dynnu ar ddulliau a fydd yn ein galluogi i ymestyn ein sgyrsiau. Defnyddir cyfweliad traddodiadol a thechnegau holiaduron, a fydd, gobeithio, yn sail i'n gwaith ac yn datgelu'r effeithiau. Yn ystod pob tymor o waith hefyd, byddwn yn ceisio cynnal cyfarfod mawr - Cymerau, neu gydlifiad - lle byddwn yn cymryd rhan mewn trafodaeth am y gwaith celf a'r materion a phryderon sy'n codi.
Each individual project will seek to explore issues in a unique way and each artist will employ different participatory arts methods in order to answer questions emerging from the mid Wales case study team’s ongoing investigation. Some works will engage specific community groups and associated issues, while others might seek to produce communities of shared interest around specific themes, locations and artworks.
It is not the aim of any single work that it should engage with community members across the entire case study area. But rather, that the broad range of artists, groups, individuals, locations and themes engaged by the project, as well as its twelve-month duration, should produce an artwork (conversation) that is greater than the sum of its parts. While the emphasis in the work created will be upon participatory practices, the four seasons, and our Water Map, will be understood as a broader structural frame for arts and community participation and the production of relationships; person-to-person, person to place, person to water.
Connectivity and the need for wider awareness of issues as understood and experienced by individuals, community groups and organisations concerned with governance, is a recurrent theme in our conversations with stakeholders both at local and UK levels. It is hoped that the production of our Water Map will, in keeping Grant Kester’s observations about dialogic art practices, be productive of further conversations and collaborations directly related to the themes and practices emerging from the project. Cymerau is not driven by a desire to instigate specific social changes, but rather, it seeks to produce relationships and, in so doing, to facilitate a cultural confluence of skills and knowledge that might make social change in relation to water, and its governance from above and below, possible.
This work will be largely process based, with each sharing of an artwork, film, performance etc. representing the ongoing collaborative activity that has brought it into being. In this way, our understanding of participation extends beyond the exchange between spectator and artwork in the live event, to encompass all of the conversations and interactions that are necessary to bring our year of work into being.
In order to ensure that our work, and that of our collaborating artists, is informed by the concerns of individuals living and working in Borth and Tal-y-bont, we will draw upon a combination of arts and social sciences methods. Listening, consultations, questionnaires, interviews and round table discussions will be an ongoing feature of our work. This will be the case during our preparation phase, February 2015 – August 2015. During this time we will consult with community members and artists in order to develop a programme of work that is diverse and relevant. We will then work closely with our community partner Ecodyfi and arts partner Creu-ad in order to facilitate dialogic exchange between artists and participants in the design of each artwork. In this way, our work will be neither artist nor community led, but rather constituted through an ongoing dialogue.
Throughout the year of work, and in the months following its completion, we will continue to draw upon methods that will enable us to extend our conversation. In addition to traditional interview and questionnaire techniques, which we hope will inform our work, and reveal its impacts, we will, in each season of work, attempt to facilitate a large meeting - Cymerau, or confluence - where we will engage in discussion and debate about the artwork and emerging issues and concerns.
